Physical Description: A fragile glass sculpture, that is how he has been described. Mathias has always had a willowy frame, never being able to put on much muscle until he hit adulthood and even then it was not much. He has had to work for every strength he has, and while he will never be athletic (due to his heart defect) he continues to put in the effort to keep up what little he has gained.

From his head to his toes Mathias is meticulous in his presentation; always freshly shaven, wearing a well kept suit and mirror shined shoes. He takes great care in his physical appearance, right down to the colours he chooses to wear.

Personality: Born as the youngest son among seven Mathias was always in the shadows of his older brothers who were stronger, faster, better. Mathias knew he was not like the rest of his siblings, his mother made sure that his older siblings were aware that their baby brother was too delicate to play their rough games and had to stay indoors when they went out to play, this left Mathias to develop an independent streak that borders on unhealthy. He enjoys others company and often seeks it out, but he is also perfectly content to remain in solitude in his study when he needs to truly focus on work.

Another consequence of his childhood is his almost obsessive need to be in control of his future and the world around him; it is what led him to a career in politics and why he is now a diplomat. He is consumed by his need to be in power, if he can't be physically strong then he will be politically powerful.

Backstory: The land that Mathias was born in is one filled with war where the physically strong lead and the physically weak serve their masters. His was a fate destined to stand by his brothers side and see the victories he planned praised as his brothers. No one ever saw him as more than an aid, a political pawn that Cecil Rhosyn used to achieve his great military achievements; Mathias hated it.

The anger inside of him grew every day as his brothers were all hailed as heroes and he dismissed as a broken son. It was during one of those victory parades that Mathias decided enough was enough and he was not going to take, he wrote a note to his mother wishing her well, packed his life up and left. He never thought about what would happen to his family and home with that choice of his - and even now that he knows that he signed their death warrants he can't find it in himself feel more than a partial sadness.

Choosing to leave everything behind was a decision centuries in the making, it was what he had to do in order to achieve his goal. With all that he knew behind him, Mathias headed out to find a place to take the power he believes he deserves after years of devoted service to a people who never valued his sacrifice.
