What is the Lore?
The Lore is a player driven roleplay community tied to a grid based browser game. Members are able to create their characters in the game by choosing from six playable races. From there they are able to teach their characters new powers, create and join clans, wage war on each other for territory, and do battle in the streets. Events that occur in the browser game can be used to inspire and guide plotlines, character relationships, and development in writing that takes place in this server and the forum.
The Story of Andalvyn
Earth was once a place infused with magic and populated by immortal beings. As mankind grew, the immortals began to dwindle, slowly falling into the gaps of the world. This came to a head during the Renaissance as the dawn of modern science empowered humanity and threatened to push the Immortals from the face of the Earth. Fearing this, a being known only as the Mad God created a new realm the Immortals could retreat into. The Mad God set about his work, crafting the City of Andalvyn where the Immortals could thrive.
Five immortal races came to inhabit Andalvyn: The Demons, who clawed their way up from their cursed pits to lay claim to the world above. The Tua, strange fey beings who came to the world from beyond The Blur. The Vampires, dark lords who rule the night and fear the day. The Therien, bestial creatures who commune with the wilds. The Celestials, holy creatures who descended from the heavens above. Even some humans managed to slip through the cracks of the world and found themselves in this strange new city.
Andalvyn became a city of peace and it began to thrive as the Mad God continued to expand and build the settlement. Each new act of creation however took something from the Mad God, left his mind less than it had been previously. Before long, he realized he would never finish his task and set about completing his final creations: A new pair of twin gods to complete his work. One of Light and one of Darkness to keep each other in balance. The twin gods were left slumbering, waiting for the day they would be ready to look after Andalvyn. With that, the Mad God faded from the world.
Thus, Andalvyn continued on without its creator and all seemed well. Differences were settled with diplomacy, and all began to flourish. Things began to change however when the Light God awoke early from his slumber. Without his sister to keep him in check, he began to gather followers to him at an alarming rate. Mortals in particular flocked to him and formed a church known as the Disciples of Man, which came to view the Immortals as trespassing on the immortality of their new god. They declared war on the Immortals and Andalvyn was thrown into chaos.
The Immortals and any Humans who found themselves opposed to the Church banded together to form The Eternal Council. They gathered a great army to meet the Church’s Crusaders in battle. The battle raged for day and night, and hundreds fell to the endless slaughter. Finally, the great vampire lord St. James rose above the battlefield on his golden throne. He summoned countless swords, dropping them down upon the forces of the church like the thunderbolts of an angry god. By the time they could stop him, he had broken the church’s forces.
In the wake of the battle, the Church retreated into the shadows leaving the Council to take control of Andalvyn. Without the wise leadership of Lord St. James, however, arguments began to stir over who would run the city. The Council began to break up into clans, each of which laid claim to control over the great city. Before long, the clans were locked in an endless stalemate, often boiling over into battles in the streets.
Now, to make matters worse, the Church is slowly licking its wounds. Its agents now walk through the streets and menace non-believers. With conflict brewing in every corner of the city, how long will it be before blood flows in the streets of Andalvyn?
Welcome to The Lore
Six Playable Races!
Human: Your character is a human. Magical or mundane, they are mortal and lack the traits indicative of other races. Humans tend to get by on ingenuity and more than a little luck.
Vampire: Undead immortals known for sustaining themselves at the expense of mortals. Their ability to drain others gives them an unnatural durability.
Therien: A primal race of shifters, Therein are able to take on the traits of beasts and animals. They are powerful creatures with incredible vitality.
Tua A collection of mysterious fae creatures with otherworldly powers. Elves, dwarves, gnomes and trolls are all fantastic examples of the Tua people. The Tua are rather at home with the Blur, from whence they came.
Demon Infernal beings hailing from the underworld. Often viewed as mischievous or malicious, Demons have a knack for corrupting and manipulating others.
Celestials Holy beings bathed in light. They are often seen as pure and good intentioned. Celestials are often messengers or assistants keeping the world running smoothly.
Note: These are the races as presented in game. We intentionally try to keep them somewhat vague to allow for a variety of character concepts. We encourage you to pick the race that best suits the character you have in mind and to feel free to flavor or alter it as you see fit. Our primary restriction is against hybrid races as this tends to confuse things in the game.
