Coming off as far less imposing than she might seem, paired with her natural grace and measured movements, she is a skilled predator and can hold her own fairly well in battle.
PSYCHOLOGICAL TRAITS
Merits: Far more lover than fighter. Intelligent. Graceful. Sensual. Passionate. Magnanimous. Trusting. A loyal friend and ally to have.
Flaws: Easily distracted. A bit flighty and naïve at times. Too trusting. Jealous. Possessive. In romantic relationships, she expects more than she is willing to give. Free with her body, but not with her love or fidelity (some may see this as a merit, but in Calanthe's case, it generally means she's unable to commit in relationships.) Extremely affected by any kind of light, not just UV. This can be difficult in all aspects, and easily manipulated by enemies.
Personality: Calanthe is warmth itself. Some say she is a Dark Sun, perhaps compensating, to those around her, for the lack of the light she cannot stand for long. She is loyal and trusting, and trustworthy in turn to all she considers "friend," and quite the opposite to those few she considers "foe." She is generous, giving, very free with her time and gifts to those she cares for. Calanthe is an excellent friend and ally to have close. Her flightier nature makes it quite difficult for her to hold a grudge for long. She draws as much strength and peace from water as she does shadow. Sensual in all things. Sensory seeking to the nth degree. Takes great pleasure in her existence and seeks out the best and most beautiful in all things. Rose-colored glasses tend to cloud her judgment and her ability to sense or accept negativity or ugliness, which can lead to many a disappointment. Generally a positive and gentle personality, though, she tends to take these things in stride when they occasionally smack her in the face and she carries on with her chin up and that trademark mysterious smile.
She can be exceptionally jealous and demanding or manipulative if she thinks something (or someone) she wants is slipping out of her grasp. She is not used to hearing "no." She expects far more than she is willing to give where romantic relationships are concerned - ie, she is pan/poly and will carry on with several lovers at a time, but expects her partners to be faithful only to herself. A trail of scorned lovers has been left behind her; some occasionally pop up and cause trouble for her, but in general this fact does little more than solidify her reputation as a generous, giving lover with a penchant for breaking hearts. Still, she is open to the idea of there being someone out there who could have her reconsidering and changing her ways.
BACKGROUND
Family: Deceased
Friends: Developing
Enemies DevelopingBackstory: Calanthe was born in Patras, Greece, at the end of the year 1408, just after the City had been conquered by Venice. A late-come surprise to her middle-aged parents, Calanthe was the youngest of six, with her elder siblings already nearing or well within adulthood upon her arrival. As a child and young lady, she wanted for nothing and was doted upon by her very large family. Though they were not of noble blood, they were well-off, and Calanthe, though spoiled, was known for her kind and gentle nature, especially to the vulnerable, with a very soft spot for animals.
At the age of 17, she was married off to a man from a noble bloodline who was nearly twice her age. However, her parents had been careful and Calanthe, grateful he was kind and quite handsome despite having little say in the matter, took to being a wife, and later a mother, with all the zest she had for life. Before long, she fell deeply in love with her husband, and he with her. But their idyllic life would be cut short by one of the many invasions of Patras, one that saw Stolos killed in battle and her life left in tatters.
Calanthe fell deeply into grief and though she was not even 30 years old by the time she was widowed, she refused to marry again. Instead, she and her three children moved back into her now-elderly parents' large estate and Calanthe threw herself into a less than savory life, oftentimes not returning home for days at a time.
It was during one such blurry time of revelry and overindulgence that eventually found Calanthe within the clutches of something quite inhuman. Something that had, over several drunken weeks, become rather obsessed with the enchanting, merrymaking woman, in spite of, or perhaps in part because of, the touch of melancholy streaked through her very essence, like fingerprints tracked over a brilliant stained glass panel. Before she understood what was happening, Calanthe found her life had been taken by this strange human-like creature and exchanged for something else. Something dark and sinister.
But like all else in her existence, Calanthe eventually took this assault and affront somewhat in stride and began to make the most of it, despite an undeniable rage toward her Maker. (Note: unknown, open to taking suggestions or plotting!) After many years spent gliding through life and living it as largely as she possibly could in the near-absence of light, she made her way to Andalvyn in hopes of creating a more peaceful and stable existence for herself.
