Writing Etiquette
The Lore is a fantasy setting where a variety of races and factions will often find themselves embattled for territory and political control over Andalvyn. We encourage a wide variety of character concepts, even villains. To that end parts of the Code of Conduct have been loosened or suspended with respect to the actions of characters. That being said, we maintain the following guidelines for in-character behavior and interactions:
-
Original Characters Only- We expect all characters to be the original creations of their respective authors. Please refrain from lifting a known character from outside franchises and properties. You may use such characters as inspiration, but we expect a sufficient adjustment to the character such that they are not readily identifiable. You will be asked to alter the character further if this is not met.
-
Godmoding- Godmoding is the attempt at portraying your character as significantly more powerful than others or as having insufficient flaws. We expect all members to maintain a certain level of parity with each other. If there is a power imbalance between two members’ characters, it is best practice to make sure that imbalance is agreed upon by both members.
-
Character Autonomy- All characters are under the control of their respective authors. Attempting to control, injure, or kill another member’s character without their approval or consent is highly frowned upon. As such we recommend describing your character’s attack, and allowing the other member to write their character’s reaction as they see fit. Another solution is to agree upon the outcome of a conflict or interaction ahead of time with the other member, or to make an agreement to co-author a character. Repeated attempts to control another member’s character will be met with disciplinary action.
-
Crossing/Metagaming is Prohibited- Crossing or Metagaming is the act of writing your character with knowledge only the member, or another character would have. We expect our members to maintain a “veil of ignorance” and utilize only knowledge and experience their characters would have access to. This also covers taking in character arguments out of character. Note: Members may not appeal to crossing as a defense for violations of the Code of Conduct. Other members are under no obligation to write with your character.
-
Writing Conventions- In the interest of maintaining readability and a consistent language we encourage members to write in the third person. While writing in “in character” locations, all writing is considered to be done in character. If you need to communicate out of character in such locations, please use double parentheses to indicate OOC communication. ((This is an example of out of character speech))
-
Behavior- While the Code of Conduct is relaxed in character, there are certain standards of behavior we expect characters to follow. Sexual abuse and the abuse of minors is always prohibited. Violence and displays of affection are permitted with limitations. We expect to see conflict and relationships between characters. Keep in mind other members may be sensitive to certain stimuli and as such we expect gratuitous detail to be kept out of public spaces. In more private spaces such as character journals, members may use trigger warnings and spoiler functions to ensure readers must opt into that content.

Code of Conduct
The Lore is built to be both an entertaining and safe experience for all its members. All members, staff included, are expected to abide by a code of conduct with the goal of maintaining a healthy and engaged community. All members of the community are expected to conduct themselves in a positive, respectful, and lawful manner. To that end, there are a series of behaviors which have been deemed restricted and/or prohibited and will result in disciplinary action when brought to the attention of the staff:
-
General Harassment- We expect members to treat each other with respect during all interactions. If you’ve been asked to limit a particular behavior with another member, please take that into consideration and refrain from continuing said behavior.
-
Bullying/Cyberbullying- We do not tolerate any sort of bullying within the community. Attempting to isolate, blackmail, swat, or slander a member of the community is prohibited. Sharing photos, personal information, or screenshots of personal conversations of other players without consent is similarly prohibited. If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all!
Admin note: If you need to send any screenshots to the Admins, regarding any issues, they will stay confidential.
-
Sexism- Any disparagement of a community member over their sex or gender or orientation is prohibited. This includes members of the LGBTQ+ community.
-
Racism- The use of racial slurs, disparaging or hateful remarks, and dog whistles is prohibited.
-
Creedism- Members of all religious backgrounds (or lack thereof) are a welcome part of the community. Disparaging other members over their religious backgrounds is prohibited. Similarly, we do not accept the religious background of a member as justification for any other form of abuse.
-
Politics- We discourage all political discussion. The Lore is frankly intended to be a hobby and escape from the real world and these discussions can quickly get out of hand. That being said, attacking someone for their political leanings is not acceptable.
-
Child Abuse- We have a zero tolerance policy for child abuse. Behavior including but not limited to: Physically, emotionally, or sexually abusing a child as well as grooming will be dealt with strictly.
-
Sexual Abuse- We have a zero tolerance policy for sexual abuse. Behavior including but not limited to: Unsolicited images, refusing to respect boundaries, or predatory behavior will be dealt with strictly.
-
Violence- We have a zero tolerance policy for threats or attempts at violence against other members.
-
-
Terms of Service
-
Age Requirement- We expect all members of the community to be 18 years or older. This is regardless of the member’s local age of legal majority or consent. By reading this and interacting with The Lore and its community you are verifying your age. Your account will be deleted if you are found to be under age.
-
Soliciting- We do not allow the solicitation or spamming of other sites or services. Violation of this is grounds for immediate account deletion.
-
Copyright/Trademark- The Lore takes no ownership or responsibility for content generated by its members. Characters, graphics, art, and photos are all expected to be the property of the member using them. Any content being claimed by a copyright or trademark holder in good faith will be removed as requested.
-
Cheating- Attempts to undermine the fair play of the in-game component of The Lore is prohibited. While members are allowed multiple characters, those characters are expected to behave as separate entities. Using multiple characters to dog-pile another member’s character or acquire an unfair advantage in resources will be considered “crossing” and is prohibited. The use of bots or third party software/programs/coding that gives an unfair advantage is prohibited.
-
All Transactions are Final- The Lore is under no responsibility to provide a member with refunds. This includes if a member loses their account due to violating policies such as Terms of Service, Code of Conduct, or Writing Etiquette.
-
Reserved Rights- The Lore reserves the right to update and alter its policies and terms of service as it sees fit. The Lore reserves the right to restrict, suspend or terminate access to the site, in whole or in part, for any reason. Donations do not guarantee the site will necessarily remain available indefinitely.
-
Privacy Policy- Access to The Lore requires the collection of the following information: contact information (via e-mail addresses for verification and account recovery), log in information (usernames and passwords for the various accounts), PayPal information (via the donation system). The Lore also makes use of cookies for the purpose of facilitating features across the game and forum. The Lore does not share any personal information collected with third parties and uses solely for the operation of the services to its members. Content generated by members is maintained on The Lore’s services and their respective servers though members retain ownership of their creations. Should The Lore desire to use this content for purposes such as advertising, it will be done solely with the recorded consent of the members involved in its generation.

March 27 2023: Leprechaun Hobbled but Watch Your Wallets!
-
After an intervention, our new merry citizen vowed to no longer live his days full of energy drinks. The Leprechaun vowed to take his life slower for now.
-
The school called Furari is open. They teach, something. By the name, I have no idea and they didn't want to enter in details. On another note we seem to have a new stealing problem.

March 14th 2023: Open Beta!
These renovations were supposed to be done some time ago. But the construction had to be postponed after the engineer's wife had, let's say, a problem with stakes. All seems well now, and without further ado:
-
Many structural changes were made in how the city deals with both new and old citizens; everything was done to improve everyone's quality of life.
-
The mistake that allowed people to buy houses without the proper paperwork and registration was solved. Every house bought and not previously assigned to someone will now have a mayor-appointed owner.
-
And now, after such a long wait, the doors are open. No longer will you need the invitation to be a citizen of this city.

February 1st 2023: Race Shop Moved
-
I heard a rumor, that some pubs got hot gossip about life, death, and the in-betweens.
-
On more serious notes, my dear friend, the Plague Doctor, decided to make our city his home. If you feel ill, be sure to visit his clinic at the intersection of Seginus and 49th.

January 18th 2023: Therien , Demons, and Tua Implemented
It seems three new groups (or cults) of folks are coming to our city:
-
The Therien believe they are one with the beasts, and so I suppose they come to help the circus have a new freak show.
-
The so-called Demons are just some edgy folk complaining about the church. At least about the church, I must agree.
-
Then there are the Tua; why even call themselves a group if most of them have nothing in common?
I hear the Slayers are broadening their interests; maybe they will make these people go away. A man can only hope.

January 9th 2023: Vampires Implemented
After 26 days I am finally feeling back my teeth, as sharp as ever, and my sleep is starting to resume its schedule. Thanks to the plague doctor for helping me return to my former self.
- Vampire character creation was added.
